Teaching content and culture through proficiency-driven instruction

We are off school Monday, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. So we will complete this on Tuesday the 16th. Even a day late, I feel it is very important, perhaps more this year than any other I’ve taught, to discuss civil rights and activism. I see so many students who have little hope. Little tolerance. Little spark. My goal is that they will see someone just like themselves… OR not like themselves at all… and make a connection. Get a little spark back.

I will spend one day on this and refer back to it during February’s Black History Month. It will be a nice way to settle back into school after a three-day weekend.

This is a very simple, level 1 resource. I will use it with my 2’s as well. My creativity was sparked when I saw this original from Mrs.Park shared in my newsletter from the amazing Bertha Delgadillo. My version is 100% editable. Once you download it, it’s yours to alter and adjust to your needs.

I hope you enjoy!
